Plant waxes were the focus of Richard's several trials.Vegetable wax was the product from combination of coconut oil, palm oil, soybean oil that that he worked on. This combination was then mixed with a bit of beeswax, thus, evolved a less pricey type of organic wax candle.
The introduction of soy candle wax to the rest of the consumers was done in 1995.The Body Shop was the first to offer this new invention - soy candles!Beeswax and almond oil candles are just among the products that The Body Shop was selling during those years.Since soy wax was a cheap and practical ingredient for candles, almond oil was then substituted by this product.
Beeswax was later switched to another product in 1996 right after Richards discovered a new product when he was busy with hydrogenated soybean oil.
In 1997, the University of Iowa started to experiment more with soy wax. Then, it was at this time when the same university released their paper, Increasing the Use of Soybeans in the Manufacturing of Candles. The benefits of soy wax was more known as the research pushed through in 1999, dwelling more on the characteristics from the combustion components of candles that are created from hydrogenated soybean oils and hydrogenated vegetable oils. It was a great advantage for the public to make use of soy wax since it showed positive results caring for the environment, as well as being less costly to produce; These were the talking points in the papers.
In 1991 Cargill bought Michael Richards patent and now creates soybean wax and supplies it to candle manufacturers.You now have a clearer picture of the where and how soy candle wax came to be.It's time to begin creating your own soy candles using all-natural ingredients.Working with soy candle wax is easy and it cleans up with soap and warm water.
